Your next chapter

You’ve built your savings. What’s the plan?

Over the years, you may have built a meaningful KiwiSaver balance alongside other investments, a business or property. Each decision made sense at the time. As retirement moves closer, the question shifts from growing your savings to how they will work for you.

That is a useful conversation to have. What would you like your savings to make possible? How does KiwiSaver sit alongside the wealth you’re building elsewhere? And does your approach still make sense for the person you are today?

At Bespoke Wealth, those questions are where the advice begins. James starts with your plans for the years ahead, then considers how your KiwiSaver and wider investments can sit alongside them.

Personal means understanding you

Before a recommendation, a proper conversation.

Talk through your bigger picture with James

Two people can be the same age, with similar KiwiSaver balances, and need very different advice.

One may want the freedom to reduce their working hours. Another may be growing a business, supporting family or building investments elsewhere. Their priorities, the risks they can afford to take and the way they feel about market movements may be quite different.

James takes time to understand those differences. He considers your income, other investments, financial commitments and future plans, as well as when you expect to use your KiwiSaver and other investments. He also explores how you would feel if markets fell, so the discussion covers both financial risk and your comfort with uncertainty.

You do not need a perfectly formed retirement plan before you get in touch. You may simply want help understanding which questions deserve attention and how your decisions fit together.

Meet James Newbigin

Experience in markets. Time for your story.

When you get in touch with Bespoke Wealth, you’ll speak directly with James.

His experience includes working as an Investment Adviser and Partner at Craigs Investment Partners, followed by working with private investors and family offices at Saxo Bank in London. He brings that New Zealand and international investment experience to the advice he provides today.

But a useful advice relationship also needs room for the everyday questions. Can you explain why this approach suits me? How does it fit with my other investments? What happens if my plans change?

James’s role is to help you work through those questions, explain the choices and trade-offs, and develop advice around your circumstances. You have someone to speak with who understands the thinking behind your strategy, as well as the investments within it.

The thinking behind your strategy

Different investments. One retirement goal.

Read our disclosure statement

Understanding you gives the investment decisions a purpose. With your objectives and timeframe in view, James considers suitable investment managers, products and portfolio options, and how your KiwiSaver sits alongside the investments you already hold.

Diversification matters as retirement approaches. Holding a spread of investments across regions, sectors and asset types can help manage the ups and downs of markets, though it does not remove risk entirely. James can explain how the choices fit together and the role each one plays.

For suitable clients, that may include personalised or self-directed portfolio options. James can explain the flexibility available, the additional decisions involved and whether that approach is useful for your circumstances. More choice has value when you understand why you are using it.

Costs belong in the same conversation. James explains the scope of his advice, the relevant advice fees and investment charges before you decide to proceed. You can ask what you will receive, how the costs work and what an ongoing relationship would involve.

Thinking about retirement income is part of it too — how and when you might draw on your savings, and how that fits with your other sources of income. And life keeps moving: changes in your work, family or plans may be a reason to revisit the strategy. Ongoing guidance gives you someone who knows the thinking behind it and can help you consider what those changes mean.

When a conversation can help

Make the next 10–15 years count.

This service is particularly relevant if you have built a substantial KiwiSaver balance or other investments and want them considered together as retirement moves closer. You may be an established professional planning your next chapter, a business owner balancing personal and business investments, or someone working towards retirement with several financial decisions to bring together.

You value being able to speak directly with an adviser who knows your circumstances and can explain the choices. The first conversation helps you and James explore whether his approach is a good fit, and what further advice would involve.

Before we talk

A few things you might be wondering.

What happens during the introductory call?

Your 30-minute introductory call is a chance to talk directly with James about your KiwiSaver, your wider investments, your retirement goals and the questions you'd most like to work through. You can ask how his advice process works and what working together would involve. Detailed personal recommendations follow a fuller assessment of your circumstances.

Do I have to change my KiwiSaver provider?

No decision is required to start a conversation. Any recommendation about a provider, product or investment approach should follow an assessment of your circumstances and objectives.
